Overview
The Captain is ANANTA’s playable protagonist and the leader of the Anti-Chaos Directorate (A.C.D.) Task Force. Players choose between male and female Captain variants, with both sharing the same core story and subtle dialogue differences (female Captain playability was confirmed in a September 2025 Famitsu developer interview). The Captain is an Esper — also called an Infinite Trigger — who arrives in Nova City with limited memory of their past and is tasked with investigating Chaos-class incidents threatening the city.
Personality
The Captain is driven, resourceful and openly thrill-seeking. They carry the weight of Nova City’s safety as head of the A.C.D., but are not played as grim — they enjoy a challenge and are willing to push boundaries. Their amnesia at the start of the story gives the character a discovery arc, piecing together both the Chaos phenomenon and their own past in parallel.
Appearance
The male Captain has short dark hair, blue eyes, and wears a black coat over a white button-down with a blue tie, black trousers and black gloves. A blue armband sits on the right arm with an ID tag on the left. The female Captain shares the same combat-ready, urban-traversal silhouette and is fully playable in the launch build.
Role in the Story
The Captain arrives in Nova City as the newly appointed leader of the A.C.D., an agency dedicated to Chaos-related investigations. The A.C.D. is later shut down under circumstances tied to Chaos events, after which the Captain is recruited into the Nova City Crime Agency (N.C.C.A.). Their personal arc revolves around recovering lost memories and uncovering how those memories connect to their Chaos powers. The producer has stated the story can be replayed from multiple character perspectives, exposing different angles on the same events.
Abilities & Combat
The Captain is one of the most combat-versatile characters in the game.
- Chaos Liquid tendrils — organic, tendril-like appendages generated from the arms, used as grappling hooks for skyscraper-to-skyscraper swinging and as wide AoE combat attacks. Community comparisons reach for both Spider-Man (traversal) and Prototype / Venom (combat tendrils).
- Swinging traversal — the Captain is the only character with Chaos-based swinging movement; no stamina restrictions are applied.
- Telekinesis — pulls environment objects into hand for use as weapons.
- Martial arts — fluid combo strings, enhanced punches and unique combat extensions beyond the cast’s baseline kung-fu chain.
- Firearms — access to guns and other ranged weapons.
- Team nexus — anchors real-time switching to up to three other crew members during missions.
Trivia
- The Captain’s Chaos-liquid kit is frequently compared to Spider-Man (swinging), Venom / Prototype (tendril attacks), and broader symbiote aesthetics.
- Early A.C.D. documentation in pre-release materials refers to the Captain as “the Investigator”.
- The female Captain was confirmed playable in the full release; both versions share the core story with subtle dialogue differences.
- The Captain’s amnesia and unknown link to the A.C.D.’s shutdown is positioned as a central mystery of the main narrative.
